My Weekly Progress.
Week Thursday 26th January 2012.
This week i have managed to complete nearly everything I know I that needs to be in my blog. I have completed my third article planning sheet and i have included as much information I could in to it. I also have drawn up my photo shoot plans, if I had more time I would of drawn them up neater and more precise. Also one was upside down and I did not know how to turn it the right way round. I also did a little extra by drawing out what my photo shoot is going to visually look like, this is so I can remember what I want my shots to look like. I need to draw up another one for my second photo shoot. I also did complete my Model release form which I need to scan into the computer to put into my Blog. One thing that I have not done this week that I will need to know put into my schedule for next week is to get my photo shoot booked this is because I still need to find out when one of my models are free. Overall I think it has been a productive week.

Artcle planning sheet 3
Article Planning Sheet
Fake Fur Comes first
Article target audience: The target audience for this magazine is slightly more for the environment lover’s type. My magazine being called quirky clothing shows it is for people with a difference. It is for socioeconomics group c-b and still hits all the ages of my target audience.
Planning Comments
| |
article genre
(purpose, type)
|
This article is a persuasive article to get the audience interested in a topic and to convince them to help a cause. The article will be there to persuade people to join the cause of fighting against the fur trade. The article will show them how they can get involved and why they should.
|
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person) |
I would use second person in this article because it would make it address straight to the audience and it would seem more personal to them. When persuading them this could be important because I want them to feel like i am talking directly to them making it more effective for them to get involved.
|
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
|
I would make this article very formal because I want the audience to take it seriously. I will use no taboo language because I want the audience to read this in a serious town and pay attention were as taboo language may throw them of course from the article as well.
|
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
|
In this article I will use persuasive language because it has a lot to do with the type of article. I will also use some clever writing techniques such as repetition to keep the article nicely flowing. Also to keep the audience more interested. I think it would also give the article a more serious professional look.
|
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
|
This article is to inform, educate and persuade the audience so it will have a very serious almost instructive tone. I want no sarcasm and I would like my audience to feel the down beat of the article and feel some sympathy for it.
|
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
|
I want my article to have a slower pace to it because it a slower more important read so I would like the audience to take their time with it. The article will be in straight paragraphing down the page so it is easy for the audience to follow and they won’t get confused which part to move on to next. This article will also have quite a lot of shocking imagery in it.

Photo shoot plan
Photo shoot planning document
Material to be shot: I will be shooting two different shoots for two different articles so this involves three different styles.
Lighting assistant: Chris Marriner
Makeup assistant: Heather Metcalfe
Models: Heather Metcalfe, Josh Leary, Evie Wlliamson
What props will you need?
I will not need any props because the two shoots are showing of clothing items so no props are needed to because the focus needs to be on the clothing.
Describe in detail your make-up & costume needs. (Include reference material to illustrate your needs)
The first outfit for Evie will be a tie-dye t shirt that I would of created myself. This is just to go with the article of how to tie dye your own t shirts so the t shirt it would of been done on just a cheap white t shirt, this is to show the audience it isn’t expensive. The top also needs to be bright and colour full to draw attention to it. She will also be wearing some shorts to show of the leg to make the model look more attractive and also have a sexy look to her because josh will also be in the shoot admiring her. The male model will be wearing an average teenage boy outfit.
In the second photo shoot it is all about how fake fur coats can look good and that you don’t need real ones. The will be three different fake fur coats for heather to wear all from average retail stores to show they are also not as expensive as real fur coats. heather will be wearing an average quite dull out fit with the coats quite black to show she is of a different style and also to make the coats stand out.
Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
(include reference material to illustrate your needs)
It will all be very light because heather is fair skinned and I would like to show that of in the photo shoot also to make the out fits stand out and to make the photos look bright and attractive because I would like my magazine to be very visual so making the photography very attractive and the main things on my articles is very important.
Backdrop:
The backdrops for my first article tie dye it yourself will be white because the background of the page is white so it will go colour coordinated with the article. Also it will make the bright tie dye t shirt stand out.
The second backdrop for my fake fur article photo shoot will be white as well because the pictures will be quite a lot smaller and it the backdrop was black they might not stand out as much. Also the models outfit will be black and I don’t want her body to blend in with the background.
Lighting equipment needs: For the photo shoot with heather I want to use broad lighting because I want her face lit up. With Evies photo shoot I am going to have background lighting because the photo will be further away so I think this sort of lighting will look better.

Article planning sheet 2
Article Planning Sheet
Out with the new and in with the old.
Article
target audience: This is aimed at the same target as previously but this
article more aims at some particular people in the target audience and that is
people who are more interested in the background of fashion such as textiles
students. The good thing about this article is that it will also be interesting
and apply others if they are willing to try new fashions because this is all
about old style fashion coming back in and where it came from.
Planning Comments
|
|
article genre
(purpose,
type)
|
It
is a informative and historical article about fashion. The article will show
different styles that people can follow but it will also go in to the
background of the fashion and were it came from. That’s why it will not just
apply to people who have a genuine interest in fashion but also for people
looking for a new look.
|
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person) |
The
article will be done in 3rd person. It’s not about personal
experience and it also gives the article that bit more seriousness. I will
only use 3rd person for the first part of the article, which is
all about the history of the fashion. The second part of the article is about
getting the audience to try the fashion out and telling them hw t do this I
then might turn the article into 2nd person narration because it
will make the audience feel that it applies more to them.
|
Register
(informal/formal,
colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
|
I
do want my magazine to be slightly more informal because I think that this
will sit my type of target audience but with this article I will not make it
as informal because it’s a more serious topic and I would like the audience
to read t more seriously so they might take an interest. I will not make it
to formal and might still add some taboo language in to make it more fun as
well.
|
Stylistics
(repetition,
strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing,
rhythm)
|
This
article will have slightly more stylistics in it such as repetition, this is
to make the article seem slightly more complex if the audience do want a more
sit down and read.
|
Tone of address
(hectoring,
sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
|
The
article is there to inform the audience about a topic and to educate them.
It’s going to be very straight to the point and objective. There’s going to
be no wooing the audience into reading it, the facts will be there and its
there choice if they seem interested or not and if they aren’t interested in
the first factual half there is always the slightly more fun second half.
|
Structure and pace
(discourse
structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
|
The
article will have a middle pace because I don’t want it two fast because I
want a long read in my magazine to interest some more people making the
target audience bigger. Also with my current target audience not being into
big reads I wouldn’t want to bore them so ill keep it at a mid pace.

Article plannign sheet 1
Article Planning Sheet
Tie dye it yourself.
Article
target audience: The audience for
my magazine is the audience I will suit each of my articles to. The magazine is
for a certain Tribe called craft kids, these art mostly arty type students who
like a slightly quirky style in clothing and this is why I thought my article
was suitable.
Planning Comments
|
|
article genre
(purpose,
type)
|
This
article is going to be a how to article and show people how to make a t-shirt
step by step. It will be there as an activity for the audience to get
involved with. It will make the magazine slightly more exciting.
|
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person) |
I’m
going to do this article in first person because I think it sounds slightly
more personal. It makes the article sound like a person is speaking to them.
It creates a intimate connection with the audience.
|
Register
(informal/formal,
colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
|
My
magazine being for slightly more quirky people I think it would benefit from
being slightly more informal because I think the audience would enjoy it
more. It is also aimed at a lower socioeconomics group so it would be best
suited more informal. It can also give it a slightly more comical sense to
it. I also want to use slight taboo language.
|
Stylistics
(repetition,
strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing,
rhythm)
|
I
will not have much repetition in my work because with my audience I don’t
think they would find it clever I think it would annoy them and become quite
boring for them. My magazine article will have Imperative verbs because it is
a how to article it is telling them what to do and they have to follow it
strictly to come out with a good end result. My articles will not use a lot
of clever English because that will not apply to my audience they are not the
sort of English students who enjoy reading a long piece. My article will be
straight to the point.
|
Tone of address
(hectoring,
sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
|
My
magazine will have an up beat tone and will aim to keep the audience
confident and intrigued. I would like my magazine to have a slightly
sarcastic tone to it to make it slightly comical. I Will not touch on any
depressing topics in this article.
|
Structure and pace
(discourse
structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
|
I
want the pace of my article to be fast and up beat this will give the
audience a pattern to read in and keep the article flowing. Also my audience
being quirky and arty they will not want paragraphs to read, it will bore
them and also the fact they can get involved with the article will keep them
intrigued. It being instructions and a how to article it will be in small
paragraphs for each step keeping them simple to follow.

Contingency Plan
My Contingency Plans
My Top Ten Project
Killers
|
What could go wrong during production
|
How are you going to avoid this issue?
What’s your back up plan?
|
|
The models may not turn
up to the photo shoots.
|
Make sure it is clear
where and when you are meeting the models. Also have some back up models on
call just in case the others don’t turn up then I have back up and someone
else to do it. It wouldn’t be ideal because the model wouldn’t be the one you
wanted so make sure the back up model is suitable. Also make sure you have
their number so you can ring them up if any problems.
|
|
The shoot may be booked
but cameras might not be available or booked.
|
I need to make sure
that I book the cameras at the same time as I book an appointment for the
photo shoot to make sure I get them at the same time. I also have a camera of
my own that matches all the equipment so I shall bring that as a back up.
Also make sure I have enough time to do another one if something did go
really wrong.
|
|
The models may turn up
in the wrong outfit or no outfit at all.
|
Make sure that I have
the models outfits on the day with me so I don’t have to trust that they will
have them and I know that I have them. Also I need to make sure I get the
models measured up before the day so I know they will fit their outfits, this
means I need to make a appointment to meet up with them before the shoot.
|
|
The props could
disappear.
|
None of my photo shoots
involve any props so I will not need to worry about them.
|
|
The photos could come
back out of focus after finishing the photo shoot.
|
Make sure during the
photo shoot that the photographer keeps checking the quality of the
photographs also have a brake in the middle to put the photos on to the
computer and have a look what quality there coming out at so also have a
laptop at the photo shoot.
Also make sure that
there is enough time in the production to have another shoot.
|
|
The computer could
crash during postproduction.
|
Make sure the editors,
journalists and graphic designers are regularly saving there work so if something
were to crash then they would only loose a little bit of work instead of the
whole section.
|
|
External shoots planned
but bad weather causes you to abandon the shoot
|
All my photo shoots
will be done inside a studio so there will be no weather complications unless
it stops transport and the model will not be able to get in, but then I have
my back up model onsite.
|
|
The camera could run
out of battery.
|
I need to make sure
that both the cameras are charged the night before the shoot and also take a
charger. Also make sure that they are turned off all day until the photo
shoot. Also having my back up camera means if one battery fails there is
another one.
|
|
Vital files (pictures,
text, sounds, footage) getting deleted or lost.
|
This means I will have
to make sure everything made in postproduction will have to be backed up so
nothing goes missing. I can save them online to a Google account so they will
be on the internet but know one else can access them. Also putting them on a memory stick
as well as saving them to a memory stick as well as the system.
